Vietjet Air uses Google Cloud to scale API traffic, boost security, and strengthen collaboration with 150+ travel partners.
As one of Vietnam’s top low-cost carriers, Vietjet Air has achieved rapid growth both domestically and internationally. With a network of more than 150 Online Travel Agencies (OTAs) relying on its systems to sell tickets and manage bookings, the airline successfully handles hundreds of millions of API calls every month.
Recognizing the opportunity to future-proof its operations and enhance performance, Vietjet saw the need to modernize its infrastructure. While its legacy infrastructure had supported the company’s rise to success, increasing scale brought new demands for performance and visibility to ensure successful customer experience and partner collaboration. At the same time, Vietjet needed greater visibility and control over API traffic to ensure that customer and booking data remained secure.
The airline’s leadership team proactively sought a platform that could guarantee scalability, maintain robust security standards, and streamline collaboration with its partners.
Security, scalability, and ease of deployment were our top priorities. Google Cloud Apigee met all these requirements, giving us confidence to support our growing OTA ecosystem.

Ease of deployment and cost-effectiveness were also high on the list of priorities, in line with Vietjet’s business model as a low-cost carrier. After a careful review of possible solutions, Vietjet chose Google Cloud, which best matched these requirements.
At the core of the selection was Apigee, the Google Cloud API management platform, which stood out for its ability to handle high transaction volumes and its comprehensive monitoring and security features. Vietjet also relied on the presence of Cloud Ace, a trusted Google Cloud partner in Vietnam, whose expertise in proof-of-concept demonstrations helped the airline’s leadership see the tangible benefits of Apigee before committing to full deployment.
The adoption of Apigee marked a turning point for Vietjet Air’s operations. The airline restructured its API management into three distinct environments — development, user acceptance testing, and production — to thoroughly test new features before releasing them to the market.
With Google Cloud, we can now support huge API volumes while improving security and collaboration with our OTA partners. The developer portal has transformed how we work with them.

This disciplined approach reduced the risks of downtime or errors while ensuring that partners could continue operating without disruption. Cloud Ace played a critical role in guiding Vietjet’s technical team through this process, providing training and consulting that accelerated adoption and reduced friction in implementation.
The results quickly became apparent: Vietjet Air now manages an average of 375 million API calls each month, seamlessly supporting its network of more than 150 OTAs. Keeping up with traffic is now a breeze, as Apigee enables real-time visibility into API performance and simplifies integration for partners.
A booking request from an OTA, for example, is now validated and securely processed through Apigee, with the data returned in real time. This not only improves reliability for OTAs but also ensures passengers receive accurate flight and booking information instantly.
Another milestone in the transformation was the launch of a dedicated developer portal powered by Apigee. Previously, partners relied on email to request changes or access to bookings, which created delays and uncertainty. The new portal provides a central space where OTAs can request access, track updates, and monitor their usage directly. Cloud Ace supported the deployment of this developer portal, ensuring that it met both Vietjet’s technical requirements and the usability needs of its OTA partners.
While Apigee provided the backbone for API management, Vietjet Air complemented it with a suite of additional Google Cloud services to strengthen security and improve operational resilience. For example, ReCAPTCHA Enterprise was introduced across Vietjet’s booking websites to filter out malicious bot traffic, protecting customer data and system resources.
Meanwhile, Cloud Logging gives technical teams a real-time view of system performance, enabling them to detect and investigate irregularities quickly. Together with Cloud Load Balancing, these tools ensure that the system remains stable and responsive even during peak booking periods, when thousands of users might be accessing it simultaneously.
Security was further reinforced with Cloud Armor, which protects against external threats and unauthorized access attempts.
This has helped Vietjet refine its partner strategy and direct resources more effectively. Cloud Ace also assisted Vietjet in configuring the monitoring tools to not only detect threats but also generate business insights from operational data.
By combining these layers of protection and monitoring, Vietjet Air created a secure and intelligent environment that enables operations and decision-making to thrive.
For Vietjet Air, moving to Google Cloud was not just about solving today's challenges but also preparing for tomorrow's opportunities. The airline now sees its API modernization as a foundation for broader digital transformation.
With BigQuery, advanced AI and machine learning solutions under consideration, Vietjet aims to unlock new ways of working with data. The vision is to use predictive analytics to anticipate maintenance needs, improve customer experiences through personalization, and optimize ticket pricing across markets.
This interest in AI also reflects a broader industry trend. Airlines worldwide are seeking to differentiate themselves through data-driven insights, and Vietjet Air is determined to be at the forefront of this shift in Vietnam and across the region. As Vy Nguyen, Head of PMO at Vietjet Air, explains, BigQuery and AI hold significant potential for enhancing the airline's competitiveness, from boosting operational efficiency to creating new opportunities for cross-partner integration.
To bring all current information into focus, Vietjet uses Looker Studio. Its visualization dashboards allow technical and business teams to monitor OTA performance, track which partners are driving revenue, and identify where API traffic is generated without corresponding bookings. With the potential use of AI, this will enable Vietjet Air to do even more with what the organization knows.
The airline's leadership is clear that Google Cloud has already delivered measurable improvements — handling 375 million API calls per month, enabling seamless collaboration with 150 OTAs, and protecting sensitive customer data.
Next, Vietjet Air intends to deepen its collaboration with Google Cloud, exploring innovative solutions that can further strengthen revenue growth, customer satisfaction, and operational resilience in a highly competitive market.
